The Process

Every score begins with a conversation. Before any music is written, I sit down with the director or choreographer to talk through the emotional core of the piece — what it should make an audience feel, and where those feelings need to shift throughout the work. From there, we discuss the broader concept of the performance or project, and I begin composing with that shared understanding as my starting point.

The process unfolds through collaboration. I send early samples, listen closely to the feedback, and refine the music accordingly — adjusting tone, pacing, and texture until each cue serves the work as intended. This exchange continues, round after round, until the director or choreographer feels fully at ease with the music and confident it carries the piece the way they envisioned.
